Withdraw calendars showing gory scenes of Ivorian post election crisis

purported fmr. minister being brutalized

To some people, these pictures are sensational and interesting. They have been on sale in Ghana for close to two months now and appear to be well patronized. One of the calendars costs 1 Ghana cedis fifty pesewas in Takoradi. A trader tells me she gets them from Accra, the capital. Children as well as the elderly get attracted to her shop when she displays them for sale.

It is a regular culture for people to publish pictures of a particular conflict for sale and this receives good patronage. Those who buy paste them in barbering saloons, and other public places. But have we considered the implications of these pictures particularly within the Western Region where many Ivoirians are currently seeking asylum?

The Manager of the Ampain Refugee camp at Elembelle here in the Western Region tells Skyy News the pictures remind Ivoirians of the trauma and may not be helpful in efforts at reconciliation. He is therefore calling for a ban on the sale and immediate withdrawal of the calendars from the market.
